Curriculum

We offer well-planned indoor and outdoor activities, offering a curriculum following OfSTED's Early Learning Goals. Our aim is to provide a safe and happy environment (see Why I Like Woodcote Pre-school), whilst teaching educational and social skills through play.

We have our very own organic allotment (see the Woodcote Pre-school in the Press) and encourage our children to learn to grow and then eat their own vegetables. This promotes an understanding of where our food comes from and enables the children to consider wider environmental issues, such as the importance of mini-beasts within the garden.

Our excellent kitchen facilities enable the children to enjoy cooking and baking on a regular basis, thus helping us to promote an awareness of the importance of good nutrition.

We have a computer with specialist software, designed to encourage development of pre-school children.

In fine weather an area of the village green immediately outside the Pre-school's room can be fenced off, enabling the children to play inside and out.

Most afternoons, where staffing levels and weather permit, we take the children on short outings around the village. The main playground is adjacent to the village hall, whilst the library, garden centre and allotment are just down the road and provide much interest and amusement.

For our older children we offer separate Plus 4 sessions. The activities are planned by our primary school teacher. Whilst the emphasis is still very much on fun and learning through play, the Plus 4 session provides a more formal environment within which the older children are encouraged to develop numeracy and early literacy.

For our younger children we offer separate Tiddler sessions. The older children are not present, providing a smaller, quieter group with activities tailored to suit the needs of the younger children.
