Toddlers to cater for TV chef's pub

A group of toddlers have given TV celebrity chef, Antony Worrall Thompson, food for thought after he described their chutney as having the 'wow' factor.

Toddlers and parents from the Woodcote Pre-school group, the Munch Bunch, have been commissioned by Mr. Worrall Thompson to make chutney for his Greyhound pub in Rotherfield Peppard.

The children grow their own organic vegetables on two allotments, and found themselves with an everincreasing supply. And after making up vegetable boxes to distribute to senior citizens throughout Woodcote, they approached Mr. Worrall Thompson, a patron of the pre-school, to ask if he wanted to use any of their surplus produce at his restaurant. He said: "It was an interesting proposal! The Munch Bunch has a great line in rhubarb and ginger chutney, and when I first tasted it I described it as having the 'wow' factor!

"I shall be serving up Woodcote Pre-School chutney just as soon as the first batch is delivered."

Last year the children produced a variety of vegetables as well as making their own bramble jam.

Sharron Rook, the preschool leader, said: "There are only so many vegetables we can use in the children's lunches — at one stage the runner beans were producing 16lbs per week. We foisted them on to so many people it was getting embarrassing."

After visiting Mr. Worrall Thompson at his restaurant, the children are now planning to produce chutney in the spring.
