Was the phrase "fête worse than death" mentioned?
Surely not!
In fact, all the parents were extremely impressed by the children's beautiful craft items and cakes.
There were candle holders, tree decorations, Yule logs, Christmas cakes, truffles, fondants and allotment leeks.
The children had a great time playing at shop-keepers, learning early on the art of commerce.
They managed to flog the leeks at 50p each, so they must have talent.
There then followed a brief musical interlude.
Having previously been audible in Checkendon, the children seemed a little overawed by the occasion;
possibly they were exhausted from the hard sell?
The end of term party went with a bang. John Gant filled Jim Pearson's shoes admirably, even if he did have his beard on inside out. The children loved him. Jester Giggles had the children in fits and asking for more.
Sadly, Christmas saw not only Alex, Aiden and Tula moving up to big school, but also the retirement of Cathy Gordon as chairman. She did the job in her own unique style, with bucketfuls of good-humour. Being a barrister, she whipped us into line and we are now more legally compliant than your average Lord Chancellor. Jost Wahlen (the DAD!) has replaced her and, as he's an HR man, we are all waiting with baited breath.
After nearly a month off, we are all ready to welcome our new families and to attack a topic of 'Houses and Homes'. Last January we built a snowman; maybe this year we will manage an igloo?
