OfSTED Reports

Woodcote Pre-school is registered with OfSTED. We were last inspected by OfSTED in 2004.

Some parents find a pre-school's OfSTED report a good guide to the general quality of care and education provided. In normal circumstances, OfSTED inspections take place every 3–4 years, so you should check how up to date any reports are. The OfSTED site can be difficult to navigate, so for convenience here are some links to the OfSTED reports for Woodcote Pre-school and the nearest alternative pre-school, the Cabin.

OfSTED Care Inspection

On 28th January 2004, we had our "care inspection", checking on the standard of care that we offer to our children.

The care inspection was very successful. OfSTED said:

Woodcote Pre-school Reports from OfSTED

How good is the Day Care?

"[The] staff provide a warm and welcoming environment for the children. [The] activities and resources available are interesting, varied and suitable for the ages of the children attending. [The] Staff make good use of the resources available to them, [the] staff respond well to the children's interests and promote learning in all areas.

The staff work well as a team and all contribute to planning the daily activities. Effective deployment of staff ensures the children have adequate support and are safe within the building and on outings.

The children respond to the positive reinforcements and expectations of [the] staff regarding behaviour management. [The] staff are good role models. [The] staff promote the welfare and development of children with special needs in partnership with parents and other relevant parties. [The] children enjoy the varied and existing [sic — exciting?] activities available and participate enthusiastically.

The staff have a good relationship with parents. There is an effective system for sharing information and concerns with parents...

What is being done well?

OfSTED required us to take only one minor action following the inspection, namely to insert their address and phone number into the complaints procedure in our prospectus. This was done within hours of the inspection being completed.

OfSTED Education Inspection

On 25th February we had our "education inspection", dealing with the quality of education provided. OfSTED was particularly impressed with the children's level of attainment in the categories of Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; and Mathematical Development, each of which was graded as "very good".

Environmental Health Report

Our motto is "quality not profit". We pride ourselves on providing top quality care. In line with this ethos, our lunchtime supervisor has received formal food hygiene training and holds a food hygiene certificate.

We provide hot meals everyday. Any organisation handling food, even packed lunches prepared at home, or supplying foods, even light snacks, must register with Environmental Health. This would include most pre-schools. We are a registered food business.

To ensure that we followed best practice, in June 2003 we requested an informal inspection by South Oxfordshire District Council's Environmental Health Department, to see if they had any advice to give us. Our kitchen facilities were approved and the Village Hall installed a brand new sink unit in our afternoon room. The Environmental Health Officer was very impressed with our food hygiene policies and procedures. As a result, we will not be inspected again until June 2005.
